Community Substance Misuse Counsellor
Permanent Full time
35 hrs/week
Watari Youth, Family and Community Services is currently seeking an energetic person to provide counselling in a community setting to individuals, couples and families struggling with problematic substance use. This position involves formal counseling, community outreach, referral and health promotion/education in an elementary school setting. Located at our downtown site; this position works as part of an integrated team of counselors and outreach workers focusing on residents of the Downtown Eastside and East Vancouver communities.
The successful applicant will possess the following:
- BA or counselling certificate with a minimum 3 years experience working in the problematic substance use field
- working knowledge of available community services and resources
- non-judgemental attitude
- awareness of human development (child and adolescent development in particular)
- ability to incorporate a harm reduction approach into their practice
- ability to develop alliances/linkages with new and existing community partners
- proven skills working within a team as well as independently
- successful criminal record search
